As you have probably already seen, the major headline on the newspapers today is about an “Iraqi style” plot concerning the capture and the execution of a Muslim soldier in Birmingham. Such news must not be underrated as some of us have probably seen the videos on the web of the execution of Nepalese and Americans workers by Muslims extremist groups in Iraq, but now the same thing seems to be happening here in Britain!
Saying that I agree with David Cameron’s comments that extremists being fascists is nothing but true, and one must not forget that during the Second World War both Mussolini and Hitler had links with radical Muslims organizations and an Islamic SS division was also formed in Bosnia and in North Africa. Yet most left wing associations or media would still claim that “this is a religion of peace.” There is no doubt that some parts of the Islamic religion are peaceful but historical facts prove that the expansion of this religion was not always peaceful; plus Muhammad the “peaceful man” died with numerous war like objects such as swords, spears and shields. At present, according to a recent poll, at least 37% of youth British Muslims would support Sharia law being applied and 13% of them openly supports Al Quaïda aims; thus it is not impressive to see Iraqi style executions and torture being considered here by some as a mean to “purge the traitors“.

I see that Chris has already beaten me to writing about the Tory Reform Group event in London. It was a really good event and a good opportunity to meet other CF students and MPs. Our hosts, Ken Clarke MP and Ian Taylor MP were extremely pleasant. Mr Clarke’s speech tended towards the current troubles of the home office with regards to prisons. What he didn’t expand was how the Conservatives would run it differently. All in all it was a very enjoyable experience and has given me a very different experience of London.
Last night I and four other members of Conservative Future in Bath travelled up to London in the car to attend the Tory Reform Group’s annual parliamentary social event. Conservative MP and former Chancellor Ken Clarke hosted the event and gave a very good speech on the failings of this Labour government and how a Conservative government would go about being different.
Former Conservative party leader Iain Duncan-Smith also made a brief appearance and was immediately swamped by most students in attendance. Other dignitaries and self-proclaimed important persons gracing us with their presence included John Bercow MP, Lord Hunt, and Shadow immigration minister Damien Green MP.
Around ninety Conservative Future members from all over the country attended the event. Looking around the Jubilee Room in the House of Commons (which I had expected to be larger seeing as we had to squeeze in ninety plus people,) I did recognised a few faces included Richard Jackson from University College London, Fiona Montgomerie and Christian May from Exeter University, and Arleen Ouzounian from Kings College London and 18 Doughty Street. We also spoke to the Chairman of the Tory Reform Group, Tim Barnes who kindly said that he will help in getting CF events going in the South West and Bath area. We did also manage to take a few photographs which can be found here.
After the main event and speaking had finished, most people headed to the Red Lion just off Parliament Square for a drink (those of us not driving anyway,) and then later we went for a very good curry in Brick Lane. I think that Fiona and Christian chose the smart, if slightly more expensive option by staying overnight in London, while we left very early in the morning in the car and didn’t get back home until 4am!
A rather unpleasant and threatening letter dropped through my letter-box this morning. Many people around the country have had the same experience I’m sure. Of course I speak of the polite letter from TV Licensing telling me, the “legal occupier” that it has been “noted that your address remains unlicensed” and “so you should expect a visit from an Enforcement Officer shortly.”
Apparently, “to avoid further action buy a TV License now.” The thing is though, I don’t own a television – nor have I owned one, and at this rate probably never will. Yet, I am being given an “Official Warning.” Officially warning me about what exactly?
In the eyes of the licensing authorities you are guilty until proven innocent, and unless you pay the television tax to fund left-wing propaganda, they’ll continue to hound you with the always looming presence of a visit from licensing officers. But then again, the law is the law. It’s just a pity they’re not as stringent with enforcing the abuse of banned substances – but then I suppose there wouldn’t be too many students left on University campuses if they did.
As most now know, Tony Blair’s chief of staff in Downing Street, Ruth Turner, was arrested early on the morning of Friday the 19th by police and taken for questioning in relation to the loans for peerages scandal.
After just over a week it has certainly been interesting to observe the immediate reaction of those in the Labour party and their political allies in the papers and media. The Editor of the Guardian, Michael White, took to the stage on BBC News 24 to give a particularly cringing analysis on the character of Ruth Turner, whom he apparently once met and duly described as a “kind, innocent girl” who seemed to “giggle a lot.” And? What was his point exactly? That Miss Turner being a young “innocent” woman makes her somehow incapable of attempting to pervert the course of justice? What Michael White was actually attempting was to register a vote of sympathy with the viewing general public – if those watching somehow believed Miss Turner to have been unfairly and extremely treated then they would be far less critical of the Labour party as a whole. Of course, Michael White would have us believe that he and others were only being defensive on the grounds of being naturally protective towards such an “innocent girl.” Rubbish. Not that surprisingly I, like many, believe otherwise.

How long will it take I wonder, before the majority of people in this country are morally blackmailed into changing their consumer habits? Every day we are bombarded by the media, news reports and advertising telling us of the supposedly irreversible damage that humans are doing to the planet – all seemingly in a desperate and cynical effort to get us all to ‘go green.’
But then of course, a similar sort of situation was happening hundreds of years ago, where, instead of the Earth being the deity, people were told to bow before the one true God lest they perish in the fiery dooms of hell. Similarly apocalyptic visions of the future were being espoused then as they are now. Nothing has really changed in that respect.
As you can see, the Bath Conservative Future website has been updated with a brand new design. We have also moved from Google’s Blogger to the free Wordpress software. Hopefully all the bugs in the design have been ironed out, but if you do find any please tell us. Also, hopefully in the coming weeks and months more members of Conservative Future in Bath will be posting articles on this website.
