Time For A Change
Since 1997, Britain has suffered ten years of misrule and incompetence. This Labour Government are increasingly tired, lacklustre, directionless and infighting; leaving them seriously out of touch with the electorate.
Positive Reasons To Vote Conservative
Ten Good Reasons For Change
It’s time for a change, a shake up of British politics; a modern compassionate Conservative party willing to set right the wrongs of ten years of Labour party misrule and incompetence. An end to rule by the press release and newspaper headline – it’s time for real, workable policies for everyone.
We believe that a modern compassionate Conservatism is right for our times and right for our country, promoting substance over spin. However, if you are still thinking about who to vote for at the next election, here are some very good reasons to choose the Conservatives:
- Freedom: Conservatives naturally believe in freedom and liberty. We instinctively reject Labour’s intrusive, unnecessary and expensive ID cards and would seek to abolish them if we gain office. David Cameron said:
- I believe in freedom. We are the only party believing that if you give people freedom and responsibility, they will grow stronger and society will grow stronger.
- Our party is also strongly against Labour authoritarianism and attacks on our civil liberties under the guise of anti-terror legislation and limiting our freedom of speech through unjust religious hatred bills.
- Choice: The ability to choose where you go to University, what career you pursue or how you live your life is fundamental to our British democracy. Conservatives trust you to make your own decisions and know that the choices British people make for themselves are better than those made by any state institution. You are an individual with your own talents; a real person – not a number or a meaningless Gordon Brown statistic.
- Healthcare: The Conservative party will put an end to Gordon Brown’s NHS cuts which have arisen due to incompetent financial mismanagement of the highest order. However, Conservatives realise that just throwing money at services without first reforming them is not the solution – and never will be. David Cameron said:
- We must get out there on the streets of this country and send this government a clear message. They have mismanaged the NHS. Stop cutting the NHS and let’s back it with all our hearts and improve it for everyone.
- The Conservative party would seek to free doctors and nurses from red-tape and give them the power to run their own wards and allow them to provide patients with excellent medical care rather than dealing with mountains of paperwork.
- Crime: Conservatives understand how crime and disorder affect the people of Britain better than any other political party and we have the best methods to combat such problems. Since Labour came to power, violent crime has dramatically risen and this is unacceptable. Shadow Home Secretary, David Davis said:
- Under a Conservative government, people who mug, rob and assault will be brought before the courts and treated like the criminals they are. They won’t be slapped on the wrist as if they’ve forgotten to buy a TV licence. And we will provide the prison places to do this.
- The Conservative party would seek to build more prisons, free the police from bureaucratic paperwork and get them back on the streets, and introduce tougher punishments to reduce repeat offending. Your protection and well-being is of paramount importance to us.
- Education: The children and students of Britain deserve a better education system. Rather than a top down centralised Labour Government approach, Conservatives believe that schools should have more freedom to choose and teach their own curriculum while being more locally accountable. David Cameron said:
- Individual children have individual needs, individual abilities, and individual interests. Real equality means giving every child the education that is best for them.
- One size does not fit all and we believe that exactly 50% of all school leavers should not be forced down the University route. We want what is best for the individual needs of the student, not a government target. We would put an end to Labour’s command economy, target-driven approach and put freedom and personal choice first; a system built on fairness, equality of opportunity and meritocracy.
- The Economy: The Shadow Chancellor, George Osborne, has pledged that the Conservative party will ensure continued economic and financial stability if elected. Our party also realises that you know how to spend your money more efficiently and better than the state can. David Cameron has pledged to share the proceeds of economic growth between increased public expenditure and tax cuts. Lower taxes help promote a strong, vibrant economy and encourage innovation and excellence. With the Conservatives in power, the British economy would be in safe and capable hands.
- Localism: Conservatives are committed to localising decision-making and empowering people to run their own lives. Centralised decision-making often leads to unnecessary levels of bureaucracy, and we believe that it is better for people with local knowledge to make the decisions that will affect them, rather than some distant politician or civil servant in Whitehall or bureaucrat in Europe.
- Europe: Our party is opposed to a European constitution and any further political integration with the European Union. We believe that Britain has a proud thousand year history of self-government and we have been free and democratic longer than any other nation. We support the benefits that the single market and trade with our European friends brings. However, we will vigorously fight to keep our own currency and independent ability to set interest rates that is so crucial to British economic development.
- The Environment: Conservatives are passionate about green issues, recycling and conservation. Since becoming party leader, David Cameron has set out to champion a green agenda, promote sustainable technology and preserve our countryside. Mr Cameron said:
- Going green is not some fashionable, pain-free option. It will place a responsibility on business. It will place a responsibility on all of us.
- The Conservative party will make sure that any tax rises levied on pollutants will be offset by tax cuts elsewhere. Unlike Gordon Brown, we will not use green issues as another way of raising stealth taxes on you and the other hardworking people of Britain.
- Security: The Conservative party understands the grave nature of the security situation now facing Britain and we will seek to competently and forcefully tackle the threat. However, unlike Labour, this will not entail restricting the ancient civil liberties of all. David Cameron said:
- Defeating terrorism will be a battle of hearts and minds, as well as force. But this threat cannot be negotiated away or appeased - it has to be confronted and overcome.
- Our party will immediately set up a dedicated border control force that will help play an active role in protecting British people. The Conservatives will also work towards creating cohesive communities and promoting a shared British identity.
A Final Important Fact
Something You Might Not Know
While Conservative leader David Cameron has been setting out his new agenda for change and a modern, compassionate Conservative party, in contrast, Menzies Campbell, leader of the Liberal Democrats has set out his five tests for a Gordon Brown premiership. The Lib Dems have set out no similar test for David Cameron.
It can therefore safely be presumed that come the next election, and in the event of a hung parliament, the Liberal Democrats will help prop up a failing Labour Government in a coalition. Therefore, a vote for the Lib Dems is a vote for Labour and four more years of failure, while a vote for the Conservatives and David Cameron is a positive step forward for Britain. The choice is yours.
